Website Design for Makers — UK
A Platform for
Your Practice.
Independent makers need a web presence that reflects the quality and character of their work — not a generic portfolio template. We build websites for makers, artists, and studio businesses across the UK that attract the right buyers, collectors, and collaborators.
The Problem
Generic portfolio platforms make every maker look the same.
Squarespace, Cargo, and similar platforms give you a structure — but that structure is shared with thousands of other makers. When your work is distinctive, a template site undermines it. You end up looking like everyone else, with a site that ranks poorly and communicates nothing specific about your practice.
The right online presence for an independent maker is one designed around the work — its scale, its materiality, its process, its audience. That is what we build.
We build maker websites from Malmesbury, Wiltshire, working with independent makers, artists, designers, and studio businesses across the UK.
What We Deliver
01
Portfolio designed around your work
A gallery system built from your visual language — not a template — showing work, process, and the thinking behind it.
02
Positioning & copy
Writing that articulates what you make, why it matters, and who it is for — so the right buyers and collaborators find you.
03
Technical SEO
Schema markup, site speed, semantic structure, and metadata so you rank for the searches relevant to your practice and medium.
04
Shop & commission system (optional)
Sell editions and pieces directly, take commission enquiries with a structured brief form, or both.
05
Brand identity (optional)
A visual identity — mark, colour, typography — that works across your site, packaging, studio, and printed materials.
06
CMS for self-management
Update your portfolio, add new work, and keep your site current without code or agency dependency.
Questions
What do makers typically need from a website?
A place to show work, communicate what they make and why, and give buyers and collaborators a way to get in touch. The specifics depend on whether you are selling direct, taking commissions, pursuing gallery or wholesale relationships, or looking for residencies and collaborations. We design around your actual goals, not a template assumption about what makers need.
Can you handle e-commerce if I want to sell work directly?
Yes. We can integrate a shop for selling editions, prints, and smaller pieces directly through your site — alongside a commission enquiry system for bespoke work. We will advise on what makes sense for your practice and price point.
I am worried a website will make my work look generic. How do you avoid that?
We do not use templates. Every site we build starts from your work — its visual language, materiality, and the feel you want to communicate. The design comes out of that, not the other way around. If your work is distinctive, the site should be too.
Do you work with makers who are just starting out, or only established studios?
Both. Where you are in your practice shapes what the site needs to do — a new maker establishing themselves needs different positioning than an established studio growing its commercial work. We adapt accordingly and will be honest about what is worth investing in at each stage.
